GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands — The United States had few problems besting Cuba Tuesday night, recording a 4-0 victory to qualify for the Concacaf Nations League semifinals at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

The USA, which needed a win to clinch the top spot in League A, Group A, won the group with a 3-1-0 mark and nine points over Canada (3-1-0, 9) via goal differential. The Americans finished with a plus 12 to the Maple Leafs’ plus six.

Josh Sargent and Jordan Morris tallied two goals apiece for the Americans, who won back-to-back games in the same FIFA international date window for the first time since 2016.

The result also snapped an 11-game road losing streak for the USA (0-5-6), which also defeat the Cubans for the 12th consecutive time.

With the game only 34 seconds old, the USA struck. DeAndre Yedlin dumped a throw-in on the right side to Weston McKennie, who sent a cross to Sargent. Sargent then bundled the ball home past goalkeeper Sandy Sanchez for a 1-0 lead on what was a dodgy pitch.

The Americans doubled their advantage in the 26th minute when Morris scored his first of the night, a right-footed shot from eight yards on the right side.

Morris got his second goal in the 39th minute, taking a goal away from Red Bulls center back Aaron Long. Long sent a shot from the left flank that appeared to be going into the net, but Morris ensured it would as he headed it home alone at the far post for his 10th international goal.

At halftime, U.S. head coach Gregg Berhalter replaced Morris with Tyler Boyd.

The Americans took their foot off the gas in the second half as the game became boring as it wore on.

Despite that fact, Sargent found the net again in the 66th minute. McKennie crossed the ball in from the right side to Boyd, who flipped the ball to Sargent for the goal and for the midfielder’s first assist in 10 international matches.

As the game went on, the field deteriorated from an already mediocre state. There were divots left just about everywhere. Fortunately, no one was injured.
