STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Stony Brook University women recorded their fourth shutout win of the season as it cruised past Delaware State, 3-0, at LaValle Stadium Friday night.

Sophomore Chelsie DePonte led the way with a goal and an assist as the Seawolves (5-5-0) gave up three shots in their final non-conference game of the year. Delaware State fell to 2-8-1.

“It was good to get another win, another shutout at home,” Stony Brook head coach Brendan Faherty said. “We are now 2-0 at home, and we’ve talked a lot about how we aren’t playing many home games this year, so we need to make the most of every opportunity. To score three goals and create a ton of chances, especially in the first half, I’m really happy for our group as we head into conference play on Sunday.”

Sophomore Alyssa Francese (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) put Stony Brook on the board as she was tripped up in the box eight minutes into the game and put away her third penalty kick of the year on as many tries.

In the 73rd minute, Stony Brook tacked on another goal as senior Julie Johnstonbaugh (Neshanic Station, N.J.) lifted her shot over the keeper from 12 yards after DePonte chipped the pass over the defense from the left side.

DePonte buried a goal of her own in the 76th minute, getting ahold of a redirected serve from sophomore Kimmy Chavkin (Franklin, N.J.)

Senior Carolyn Carrera (Riverhead, N.Y.) made her Stony Brook soccer debut in goal, playing the entire second half.

The Seawolves begin America East play, hosting the University of Maine Sunday at 1 p.m.
