RICHMOND, Va. – David Diosa has left the Cosmos a second time.

The versatile left-sided player signed with the Richmond Kickers for the USL League One season Tuesday, pending league and U.S. Soccer approval.

Diosa, who can play defense, midfield and forward, left the Cosmos in 2017 to play with the Real Monarchs before rejoining the squad for the 2018 and 2019 National Premier Soccer League seasons.

He became the first Cosmos to depart from the team.

“David is a crafty left sided player with the ability to take guys on with an engine to run box to box for us if needed,” Kickers sporting director and head coach Darren Sawatzky said. “He gives us another attacking option with a bit of bite on the left side and we look forward to watching him buzz up and down the left flank this season.”

Playing in the Cosmos youth system, Diosa signed his first professional contract in 2013 with the first team. In five seasons with the club, the Colombian logged scored four goals and added five assists in more than 40 appearances. He also had stints with Oklahoma City Energy FC in the USL Championship.

“I’m really happy to be joining Richmond in such an awesome time for the club,” Diosa said. “It’s the perfect situation for me and I’m so excited to go and start playing for Darren. We’re gonna be a strong team in 2020 and I’m looking forward to a lot of success this season.”

The Cosmos, who competed in the NPSL and NPSL Members Cup in 2019, have been accepted to play in the National Independent Soccer Association. They are slated to participate in the fall season.
