The U.S. Adult Soccer Association Wednesday announced it had canceled three competitions for 2020 due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Steinbrecher Cup, the USASA National Amateur Cup, and Adult Soccer Fest were canceled.

“Last night your board of directors held a call to discuss future programs with USASA, knowing what is upon us and not knowing what the future holds for us,” USASA president John Motta said in a statement.” It was a very difficult call as we had to make some decisions that are hurtful to us as an organization, but for the safety of our players, referees and administrators, we all felt this was the best decision we could make under the current circumstances.

“The uncertainty of this virus left us with no other solution. We continue to pray that this virus is contained soon and that we can all focus on getting our players and teams back onto the fields to continue playing the sport that we all love. The focus for USASA and the regions will be to assist state associations to getting back into action as soon as we are allowed to.”

The board will continue to monitor the situation and will continue to make decisions based on the current situations, Motta added.

“We will continue to look at our income and see how it effects the current budget,” he said. “We will make other decisions based on the future of our teams being able to play and register players.

USASA has applied for a loan under the CARES Act for non-profit organizations.

“We are awaiting to see if our application will be accepted,” Motta said. “If you have not applied for a loan, I would advise you to take a look at it and see how your state association may apply to help with payroll, rent and utility expenses.”
