NEW YORK – In the aftermath of two hurricanes that heavily affected the Caribbean, the Cosmos and North American Soccer League announced Friday several changes to games that are set to be played between Puerto Rico FC and New York.

The Puerto Rico-New York game that was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón will take place in the same location Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Puerto Rico and New York have swapped home dates for the remaining two matchups between the two clubs. The Cosmos will host the Caribbean side Sunday, Oct. 1, at MCU Park in Brooklyn, while Puerto Rico will welcome the two-time defending NASL champions to Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium for the fall season finale Saturday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. ET. The kickoff time for the Oct. 1 game has not yet been finalized.

NASL interim commissioner Rishi Sehgal addressed the situation in Puerto Rico Thursday:

“On behalf of everyone across the NASL, we’re heartbroken to see the damage caused by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. We would like to extend our most heartfelt thoughts to everyone affected by the hurricane, including all of the staff members, players, coaches, partners, and fans of Puerto Rico FC.”

Team and league officials will be working in conjunction with local stadium and government authorities to assess the damage and determine whether or not any other changes need to be made to the schedule moving forward.

In the wake of Hurricane Maria and for the remainder of the NASL season, the Cosmos will donate 50 percent of all sales for $10 tickets to the Puerto Rico FC staff GOFUNDME page when fans purchase their tickets using code “PUERTORICO.”
