QUEENS, N.Y. – After spending the winter playing professionally in Australia, Amy Marron has returned to her alma mater to be an assistant under St. John’s University head coach Ian Stone.
Marron spent the 2014 season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Red Storm before serving as the program’s graduate assistant in 2015.
This past December Marron signed a professional contact with Alamein FC of the Playstation 4 National Premier League in Australia. Marron was the club’s first international player and played in the team’s first two matches of the season.
A 2014 graduate of St. John’s, Marron was a four-year standout, earning All-Big East honors in three of those seasons. As a senior in 2013, Marron earned a spot on the conference second team after leading the team in assists (seven) and finishing second in goals (four). Marron also was an unquestioned team leader on a squad that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division I Tournament for the first time in program history.
As a junior, Marron played 12 games after sitting out the start of the season with an injury, but still managed to garner third team All-Big East accolades and team MVP honors.
During her sophomore season, Marron was one of three players to start all 19 games for the Red Storm, earning a spot on the All-Big second team after dishing out three assists.
Marron burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2010, playing in all 18 games and making 17 starts as she led the team in goals (3) and points (7).
The Valhalla, N.Y. native spent one season playing professionally in Iceland. As the team’s graduate assistant in 2015, Marron played an integral role in a group that earned 2015 Big East coaching staff of the year honors. She helped the Red Storm claim the first Big East regular season title in program history as the Johnnies recorded a program-record 15 wins and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years.
Marron was named the head coach of the women’s soccer team at SUNY Purchase in May 2016.
