Sky Blue FC has re-signed midfielder Sarah Killion to a new contract for the 2019 National Women’s Soccer League season.

As per team and league policies, terms of the contract were not announced.

“I have spent four years with Sky Blue FC and while every year has brought its own challenges, improvements are now being made in this organizations,” Killion said. “I trust that the right steps are being taken for the good of the players and staff. My teammates are tough, resilient, skilled and extremely hard-working. I know that they show up every day and bring their 100 percent regardless of circumstances or conditions.

“I feel honored and blessed to sign another contract with Sky Blue and to wear the same jersey as the player next to me. This year is going to have to be a collective effort from the top down, but I am so excited to be a part of what is about to unfold at Sky Blue FC. preseason cannot come soon enough!”

Killion, 26, has scored 10 goals and recorded six assists in 82 appearances since she was drafted No. 2 overall by Sky Blue in the 2015 NWSL College Draft.

This past season Killion led the team in interceptions (53), tackles (71), passes (1,139) and touches (1,539). She was also the only player to appear in every match for Sky Blue.

“We are very excited to be bringing Sarah back for yet another year with Sky Blue FC,” head coach Denise Reddy said. “She has consistently been one of the top midfielders in the league and is an integral part of this club. She is an incredible leader for us both on and off the field and I am delighted to have another opportunity to coach her.”

In 2017, Killion scored a team-high five goals and tallied two assists.

During her second year in New Jersey she again led the team in interceptions (47), touches (1,183) and passes (900), earning her Sky Blue’s Most Valuable Player award.

As a rookie Killion made 17 appearances for Sky Blue, recording her first professional assist in the final game of the season against the former FC Kansas City.

In between her first and second year in the league, Killion spent a season abroad playing for Adelaide United of Australia’s W-League where she played in all 12 matches.

She spent four years at the University of California, Los Angeles, during which she appeared in 88 games for the Bruins. In 2013 she assisted in the team clinching the NCAA Division I women’s title.

Killion was part of the starting lineup for the U.S. U-20 U.S. that won the 2012 U-20 World Cup. The following year she represented the U.S. U-23 in the 2013 Four Nations Tournament.

In 2014, Killion received her first call-up to the full-team under the former head coach, Tom Sermanni. Since then she has received two more call-ups under current head coach, Jill Ellis, but has yet to play in a match.
